International Relations:
As an international relations student, I participated in our class activity of interacting with the 3rd graders about peace in the world and in CAC. We collaborated with the 3rd graders in an effort to stress the importance of world peace, and to stress why it is important that we uphold such a great responsibility. During our meetings with the 3rd graders we discussed such things as the atomic bomb and Hiroshima to show why peace is so important to us, and to show the negative effects war can have on the world. During one of our meetings with the 3rd grade, they presented a project they made about the story of Sadako, while we presented our group projects on the bombing or Hiroshima.

"There never was a good war or a bad peace."
-Benjamin Franklin

"One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but that it is a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means."
-Martin Luther King, JR

The real and lasting victories are those of peace, and not of war.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

The focus on Peace Day in international relations class has given me a great deal of knowledge about the world, and about the efforts for peace being made all around the world. Through the class, I learned more about the aftermath and the devastation that followed the dropping of the atomic bomb. One thing that I did not know about the bombing was the amount of innocent people that perished instantly after the bomb dropped. It came as a surprise to me when I found out that the numbers reached approximately 70,000 people.

This year on September 21st Peace Day was celebrated at CAC, along with many other places in the world. Peace Day is a day where arms are laid down, a day where the sick are treated, and the hungry are fed. Peace Day is a wonderful day that we are privileged to have exist, it is an opportunity that everyone, located everywhere should participate in. Just imagine what could happen if we tried to live everyday as if it was Peace Day.
